evidently they were splicing his mask/face into regular commercials at some point earlier this week in some markets. but then i saw something this morning that the fox execs looked absolutely baffled and puzzled when they saw his firefly fun house last night... so who knows whats what. either way, raw needs something, so i think theyll keep bray and let seth/becky go to smackdown as a package deal.
I saw that confused report. Didn't get that feeling from the picture.

So KUSHIDA/WALTER and Gulak/Lio Rush tonight on NXT... suck it, AEW. I'm losing my remote for the second week in a row.

or get a dvr. but yea, that sounds infinitely more appealing than allin/havoc, private party/the bucks and jericho/guevara vs dustin/hangman. as much as i love allin/havoc.

hey hey, the bucks wont be the first tag champs. i kinda expected that honestly, but not losing to private party in the first round. that was pretty fun.

I would've guessed that, truthfully. Cody is the only one getting a huge push out of the gates.

On the good side, we had a good opener with a fun finish, so...yeah.

i don't even expect a giant push for cody either. he'll be right in the mix where he should be, like they're doing with omega and the bucks, but he's basically only getting a title shot to give jericho a 'name' victory early in his reign. i still expect omega to be the guy who dethrones jericho in 6 months or whatever.

6 months of 50 year old Jericho as champ? Shit. Give me a year of Lesnar being around 3 times a year over that.

Kushida slips on a springboard try...so Walter just calmly walks over and boots him.

I love pro wrestling.

nxt is the far superior show right now. theres not a lot of depth on the aew roster... we got the guys in the elite (which including dustin rhodes and mjf now, is basically the entire face side) and the inner circle (which is basically the entire heel side). moxley, pac and the tag teams are the only things not involved with that right now, and even moxley is feuding with omega at this point. the entire company is tied in one storyline. its an hour long show, theyll figure it out, but nxt has their shit together. and the vignettes they do before every commercial break, ie the keith lee and damian priest ones this week, do a much better job than the random vignettes/promos aew has done for the best friends or scu or whoever.

now dont take this as me giving up on aew, im basically just saying theres a lot of work to be done and figured out here. its a promising start, but theyre not even in league with nxt, let alone wwe as a whole. (although i watched hiac and raw, and both were basically unwatchable, so...)

See that's not a stance I was expecting you to take. AEW was lauded as a *great* wrestling show. Even Scott Keith loved it this week! Nothing has to me personally though, 'Flip over from NXT and check this out.'

Why is that? Because NXT is booking *correctly*...let's look at last night's show.

- Opener: Lio vs. Gulak. Match was fine, nothing great, but it was a reset for the title and established it as the NXT CW title. Makes sense to me. (Post match angle shows Drew being...kinda babyface-ish and the full moment with Regal to put it over.)
- Video Package: Sets up Tegan's return next week. NEXT WEEK #1
- Rhea squash. Calls out Shayna. Building...
- Breezango entrance. We'll forget the other people exist.
- Grimes squash. Dain beatdown. Setting up something...
- Preist video/interview. NEXT WEEK #2
- Strong/Swerve. Good match that made Scott look like a future star. This was a showcase.
- UE interview, Dream interrupts for comedy (that legit ONLY WORKS if it's Dream. Ciampa interrupts and ignores UE and talks directly to the belt again. He's a babyface for now, but he hasn't changed a bit.) Also begins to set up Wargames.
- Walter hype video. Later tonight!
- Ciampa beats up Garza. NEXT WEEK #3!
- Kai/Belair. Well, finish aside, this was fine. Showcase for Dakota, showcase for Bianca. They just need to get off the pot with her, because she needed a callup at this draft instead of another #1 contenders match. But again, setup for Rhea/Bianca.
- Dijak/Lee videos. NEXT WEEK #4!
- Dunne interview to finish up with the Preist setup.
- Kushida/WALTER. Showcase match for Kushida to make him look good in defeat, and also push NXT UK as something you can watch.

So they set up 4 things for next week, plus a big match for two weeks. Not to mention the seeds of Rhea/Bianca in a #1 contenders match. Not on this show were Johnny Gargano, Io Sharai, Candice LaRae, Matt Riddle... I mean, there's so much depth that didn't even get used, and the only time that was wasted was a 4 minute match to get over a terrible team. Whatever there.

Hear me out on this...can you name someone (other than Bray Wyatt), that doesn't fit into any of these gimmicks on the WWE main roster right now...

'Good' Wrestler
Badass
Underdog
Jobber
'Talker'/Cocky
Veteran
Comedy

...go ahead, I've been through the entire main roster, and I can't think of one at all...

"See that's not a stance I was expecting you to take. AEW was lauded as a *great* wrestling show. "

really? to both of those statements. just because i want aew to succeed doesnt mean im gonna be biased in my takes on the shows... i have no stock in either one of them being better than the other, i just wanna enjoy wrestling. and i enjoy nxt, aew and new japan right now (and im sure ill like impact again once theyre showing new episodes again).

as for the show itself, great wrestling, really? my favorite part of the show was jerichos promo in the ring getting over swagger, lax and guevara. private party and the bucks was very fun, but i dont really care for the bucks kicking out of everything and every one of their moves being a legit finisher thats not even being used as a legit false. everything else was... there. the women in aew are useless, i dont care about any one of them, and aside from one of the japanese girls (and its not even the one whos the champ, its the one she fought at all out), i havent seen one of them as a wrestler worth keeping an eye on. they really need to attack tessa blanchard, emma, ivelisse, whoever else when theyre free agents... because you cant push this division without a worthwhile one amongst them.

as for your question... aleister black is the only one that might come to mind, and i guess he would kinda fall into badass too. so uhh...

speaking of new japan, since this is kinda like their offseason after the g1 climax and going into the tag league... their likely last big card before wrestle kingdom is monday morning. i doubt anything changes (except possibly one spot, depending on how his contract looks... im sure youll guess it quickly), but it surely looks worth watching anyway...

okada/sanada for the big strap
ibushi/evil for the jan 4th title shot
moxley/juice for the us title (moxleys contract supposedly runs out the day after wrestle kingdom, and the rumor is him vs tanahashi there... so i could see him dropping the strap here, since tana is way above the us title. unless they wanna just throw another accolade on tana's name before he retires, since hes pretty close to that yuji nagata/jushin liger mentor spot, i dont know if he has any good matches left)
ospreay/phantasmo for the jrs strap
liger/suzuki (last time they were in the ring together, liger ripped his mask and singlet off to run the kishin liger gimmick briefly... so that could be an interesting sendoff for both of these guys)

and then your typical multi-man matches.

I think Baker has a shot, but...it's not in AEW as long as her husband is in WWE if a safe spot. She's ending up there eventually, so...yeah...

We talked about last night swapping someone from NXT to AEW, and everyone came up with a woman for the spot, because NXT's woman depth is just stupid. But WWE just needs to double down and keep bringing in the TNA women and Ivalese. That's the weekest part of AEW, and they need to continue building that strength.

As for NJPW, they should have Mox lose the belt to Juice, but...I'm assuming the working relationship is coming with AEW. (It should be TNA, not AEW, because of the women, but...Okada...). I thought AEW fans were insufferable now, I can't imagine the NJ fansboys jumping in, too.

i dont know how close we are to an aew/new japan relationship. im sure itll come some day but... new japan was legit pissed when omega bailed on them, he was gonna be their face to bring them into america, and he just up and left with his buddies. personally i dont care, but yea, id think the higher ups in new japan care a little. but im sure theyll get there eventually because... new japan working with ring of honor is/was an absolute joke. they dont even mention that shit anymore.

also, if tessa isnt on hunter's radar already, i would be completely shocked. i really think charlotte and asuka are incredibly talented, but for my money, tessa is the best womens wrestler in the world.
